A Few “Brief” Notes from the Principal
Hello Crusader Families!
This was our first full week of school and it was wonderful! There is so much joy and happiness filling our classrooms and hallways this year. I have been helping in the lunchroom from time to time, and I absolutely enjoy talking with all of the students. Some of them have some pretty interesting stories to share and it’s always fun to see how many teeth they are missing.
Speaking of lunch, Mrs. Lawrence, our Business Manager, will be sending out lunch billing statements starting next week. She has been compiling data from the Free or Reduced Lunch applications and we are so grateful for the awesome participation rate. Thank you for sending back those forms as it will help us receive Title funds to help our students with reading. If you forgot to return yours, she is still accepting applications (whether you think you’ll qualify or not), until Monday morning. In addition, we will once again be participating in the Backpack Food Program. Information was sent home at the beginning of the year and there is also more information in the posts below. If you would like your child to participate in this wonderful program, please turn in your form by Monday morning.
Next week the priests will be at Convocation. While we won’t have a traditional Mass, Deacon Bob has something special planned for us. We will also be having some guest speakers joining us afterwards to give a presentation on the Living Rosary. They will be providing every student and staff member with a rosary and directions on how to participate in praying the living rosary if they would like. The Community is welcome to join us as always, and they will be bringing along a few extra rosaries and directions for those that are interested. We hope you will join us at 8:45am to pray with us and Deacon Bob, and then enjoy the free 20-30 minute living rosary presentation immediately following.

A “Viau” from the Headmaster
Hello Crusader Family!
Your high school students have probably shared that I’ve been out of school this week as my son had surgery. Yesterday though, I was back and it was so awesome to see all of them again! They greeted me with love and concern for my little guy. Their response to me being gone reiterated what a great group of students we have. I appreciate them so much!
While I was gone, I’ve kept in close contact with the teachers at the high school and they’ve shared that things have gone smoothly-another testament to the character of our students. In addition, one of the first things I had heard yesterday when I was at the grade school was how the high school students stepped up to help out at Mass and how great it’s been to have them around. The reason I share all of this with you is because I want you to know how proud I am of each one of them and that I hope you are proud, too. You are all raising great young adults!
I do have a few business items to share with you! I am excited to announce that Mr. Ed McBroom has graciously volunteered to be our High School Bowl coach this year. He and the kids are excited to compete!
I have ordered and scheduled the CLT Exam and SAT for the juniors and seniors. The Seniors will take their SATs on October 26, 2026 and the Juniors and Seniors will take the CLT on October 28th. Please mark your calendars for these dates and be sure your students are at school. I’ll give them lots of reminders ahead of time, too. Both of these tests are important!
Finally, the Student Life Committee will be hosting a Tailgate party next Thursday, September 24 from 5:00-7:00 at the elementary school. Cost is $10 for adults and $8 for kids. There will be brats, hot dogs, burgers, chips, cowboy baked beans, pasta salad, watermelon and desserts. This is open to any of our Holy Name families as well as the community so please spread the word. Don’t worry about missing the girl’s basketball game that night! Tailgate starts at 5:00 and the game is at 6:00 at Escanaba Upper Elementary. It’ll be perfect timing!
Last week a parent told me that her kids were having a “banner year” this year-that they have had a great start to the school year. What a great thing to hear in the first few weeks. As the year goes on, it’ll continue to be a great one!
