FAQ’s for Preschool through 8th Grade

Below are answers to the most common questions, but please call or email us if you’d like more information.  Or, better yet, come in for a personal tour!

Q: What is Holy Name’s curriculum?

A:  Our core curriculum for K-8 consists of reading, math, language arts, science, social studies, and religion.  We also offer music, P.E., art, technology, library, as well as life skills for grades 6-8 and industrial tech for grades 7-8.  We use SuperKids for K-2 language arts & Singapore Math for K-6 math.  For grades 7-8, we offer pre-algebra and algebra.  Our middle school science curriculum includes hands-on experimentation, dissection, and botany.

Our preschool curriculum is HighScope, which is a widely used, research-backed curriculum grounded in purposeful play.

We aim to instill in all of our students the love of God, virtue, kindness, and respect.  We challenge them academically while also supporting and nurturing their emotional and spiritual selves.

Q: What is average class size?

A: For the 2023-24 schoolyear, our average class size is 15 students.

Q: What if our child has special needs?

A:  We can accommodate some special needs through 504 learning plans & coordination with the ISD for other services (e.g., occupational therapy).  We do offer speech therapy and Title One services on-site, as well a student support coordinator who can help with your child’s social, emotional, and spiritual well-being.  Please contact us to discuss your child’s specific needs and whether our school can accommodate them.

Q: What if we’re not Catholic?

A:  We welcome all faiths!  The tuition is higher for non-Catholics (see below) because Catholic parishes support the school financially.  We do offer need-based tuition assistance for all students, including non-Catholics.

We teach Catholic religion to Preschool through to 12th grade and hold weekly Mass and regular Adoration.  Non-Catholics are expected to participate in all religious activities held during school hours (though by Canon Law they cannot receive Communion).

Q: What is the cost of tuition?

A:  For the 2023-24 school year, the rates are as follows:

Preschool: $5,000 per year ($5,300 if non-Catholic)

K-8th Grade: $3,495 first student ($6,885 if non-Catholic)
$2,995 second student ($5,885 if non-Catholic)
$2,495 each additional student ($4,885 if non-Catholic)

High School: $4,235 ($5,400 of non-Catholic)

The tuition is lower for Catholics because Catholic parishes support the school financially.

Through FACTS, you can choose a monthly payment plan August through May or pay in full in advance.

Q: Are scholarships available?

A: Yes!  Thanks to generous alumni & donors, we offer need-based tuition assistance that generally covers up to 40% of annual tuition cost.  Applications are available through FACTS.

Q: What sports do you offer?

A:  We currently offer middle school boys’ and girls’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, track and field, cheer, and football (currently through a partnership with Gladstone).

Q: What is the daily schedule?

A: School begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 3:30 PM.  Students in K-8 can be dropped off in our Multi-Purpose Room as early as 7:45 AM.  Preschool students can be dropped off as early as 7:30 AM but only if they are enrolled in our Before-Care Program.

Q: What is the school year calendar?

A: We aim to follow the Escanaba school calendar as closely as possible because of bussing needs (see below).  For the 2023-24 school year, we begin August 29 and end June 6, with holidays and breaks that generally match Escanaba’s.

Q:  Is bussing available?

A:  Yes, bussing is available in partnership with Escanaba.  Please contact us to find out if your student would be on the bussing route.

Q:  Are uniforms required?

A:  All students wear uniforms — see the dress code attachment.  We do have occasional “Spirit” and “N.U.T. (No Uniform Today)” days.  We sell used uniform clothing for $1 a piece.

Q: Can we start mid-year?

A: Yes!  We can prorate tuition. If scholarship money is still available, you can apply for need-based tuition assistance through FACTS.

Q: How do we enroll?

A: Enrollment is online through FACTS.  Please see our online enrollment guide for all grades.
