Chesterton Academy, a joyfully Catholic, classical high school, seeks talented and dynamic part-time teachers for Math, Humanities, vocal music, and art to join our team starting in the 2021-22 academic year. All positions are part-time and music and art only meet a few times a week.
For the Math position, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mathematics is required, with previous experience teaching Geometry (including Euclidean Geometry), Algebra II / Trigonometry, Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Three to five years of teaching experience is preferred, as well as experience in and passion for Catholic classical education.
For the Humanities positions, the preferred candidates will be able to teach multiple levels of at least two of the following subjects: History, Latin, Literature, and Theology. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in History, Literature, or a related Humanities field is required. Three to five years of teaching experience is preferred, as well as experience in and passion for Catholic classical education.
For the Art position, the preferred candidate will be able to teach both art history and studio art. The teacher must be able to introduce students to the basic concepts of representative drawing, that is, careful and systematic observation of the physical world, followed by the faithful translation of those observations into the visual language of drawing in various media.
For the Vocal Music position, the preferred candidate will be able to introduce both the sacred and secular musical tradition of Western civilization. Experience in directing a choir is preferred.
The candidates must be willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium and preference will be given to practicing Catholics. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academy participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body and attend spiritual retreats and school activities.
