Hello Crusader Families!

What a bittersweet week it was at Holy Name. From the clearing of the classrooms, desks and chairs being stacked in the hallways, a beautiful Mass said by Father Tim Ferguson with the assistance of Deacon Bob, to the joy and fun of Field Day that Home & School put on, emotions of all sorts were had; The ending of a fantastic year at Holy Name. It was so touching to see all of the students come together in fun and excitement – a true example of one school as our High Schoolers came over to help and join in the fun.

On Thursday we celebrated the retirement of our beloved Mrs. Debra Casey. Mrs. Casey has been a staple at Holy Name for 39 years – what an amazing legacy she is leaving behind. She has touched many hearts and educated many students during her reign here. We wish her much happiness and relaxation during her retirement that she has so deservingly earned. Thank you, Mrs. Casey, for educating so many students and showing them the way to Jesus. We will miss you!

During the summer our Grade School office will be open, but with limited summer hours which will be shared with you soon in an email. If you need assistance with registering or applying for tuition assistance, please contact Mrs. Lynch and she’ll be happy to help. Don’t forget that the deadline to apply for tuition assistance is August 1st. The Brief Viau communication will still be sent out over the summer, but not weekly. As we learn new things this summer, Mrs. Viau and I will share them with you, however The Crusader will still come out weekly so be sure to keep an eye on your inbox.

Thank you to the students, parents, staff, benefactors, clergy, and everyone in the Holy Name Catholic School Family for making this such a welcoming first year for me. Many fond memories were made this year and I’m looking forward to the many more in years to come.

Have a fun, safe summer and God bless,

A “Viau” from the Headmaster

Hello Crusader Family!

The countdown is over and summer has begun! As much as we were all looking forward to the last day of school, for me it was bittersweet. I’ve enjoyed being with the high school students so much this year and will miss them all very much while we are out for summer break.

As you can imagine, my first year as headmaster was a busy one! I’ve learned so much about the students and am so proud of all that they have accomplished this year. While academics are obviously of the utmost importance, that’s not all I saw growth in this year. The students that came into school on the first day of school were not the same students that left on the last day. They’ve grown in their faith life and matured in how they handle problems and adversity. They’ve even surprised themselves at times with how much they’ve grown. It’s been an absolute honor to be with them each day. I’m looking forward to next year and the teachers and I have some great ideas for how to make it another fantastic year.

As I close out this last “Brief Viau” for the year, I just want to say thank you. Thank you to each and every one of you that offered support, encouragement, help and patience. Most importantly, thank you for allowing me to be part of your kid’s lives. It’s been a true honor!

If you have any questions over the summer, please reach out via email. I won’t be working during the month of July but I do anticipate checking my email periodically.

Enjoy your summer, Crusaders!

God Bless,

Hello Crusader Families!

What a beautiful week it has been at Holy Name! It started off with 8th Grade Graduation on Tuesday and will end tonight with our High School Graduation. Mass tonight will start at 6pm at St. Anne’s Church and we are blessed to have Bishop Doerfler joining us! Shortly after Mass our Graduation Ceremony will start. We hope that you can all join us in celebrating our amazing graduates.

I have some exciting Staff news to share with you regarding next school year! Mrs. Vicky LaMarche will be transitioning from our Office Manager to our PreSchool Teacher for 3-5 year olds! We are disappointed that she will not be in the office next year, but we’re super excited and blessed to have her teach our youngest Crusaders. Another transition next year will be Mrs. Maddi Lynch from Receptionist to Administative Assistant. Mrs. Lynch has been a great addition to our office staff and we’re very excited to have her on board full time next year! Finally, one more transition will take place with Mrs. Katie DeGrand transitioning from CGS Teacher and Recess Aide to Lunchroom Assistant and Receptionist. We are so blessed to have these amazing ladies stay on board with our Holy Name Family as they navigate to different positions within Holy Name. With these transitions, brings the opening of two Recess Aide positions. If you or anyone you know are interested in an hour or two working with our students on the playground, please reach out to me at 906-786-7550 x204 or mbrief@holynamecrusaders.com.

We will have one more School Mass next Tuesday, June 2nd at 8:45am in the Multi at the Grade School to celebrate our last week of the 25-26 school year. The day of the week is different from our normal Thursday Mass, so please put next Tuesday on your calendar as you are all invited to join us for one last School Mass.

Finally this week, if you have a lunch balance, please pay your remaining balance by next Wednesday, June 3rd, our last day of school! If you are uncertain of your balance, please check your lunch account on FACTS or reach out to our Business Manager, Mrs. Amy Lawrence at 906-786-7550 x203 or alawrence@holynamecrusaders.com.

I hope you all have a great weekend and may God bless you,

A “Viau” from the Headmaster

Hello Crusader Family,

Just a few things to note from my desk this week. Exams will be held Monday and Tuesday of next week. We will start and end at the same time each day but the daily schedule will look different. The students have been made aware of the changes for those two days. Please encourage your children to get some good rest each night as these exams are pretty important.

As the school year is winding down and we only have a few days left, please remember that if you have a lunch balance to send in lunch money soon to take care of that.

When this hits your mailbox, final preparations will be being made for our high school graduation. All are invited to celebrate this milestone for our seniors. Please come and support them! Graduation Mass will be held tonight at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s church and the ceremony will follow. We’d love to see you there!

The final days of school are approaching quickly! After exams on Tuesday, the high school students will clean out their lockers. Wednesday morning they will attend Mass as usual and then head over to the elementary school to help out with Field Day activities. The last day of school is going to be a blast!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hello Crusader Families!

It’s so hard to believe, but the end of the year is so close! We only have 6.5 days left! It has been a wonderful year and I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to work with so many great students, families, staff, benefactors, and community members. You all have been so welcoming and I thank you for your kindness and support. Most importantly, I thank you for sending your child(ren) to Holy Name Catholic School. I have worked in many different schools over the years and Holy Name is definitely the greatest school in all the land!

Enrolling for next school year is often the last thing on your mind at the end of this school year, but if you haven’t already enrolled your child for 26-27, please do so soon. Early registration helps us get teachers in place and materials ordered and ready for when our students come back in the Fall. If your family is in need of tuition assistance, please fill out the application in FACTS by August 1st. Enter as much information as you can as to why your family is in need of assistance. The committee reads these comments and disburses money on a case-by-case basis, so please, if you need any help, do not hesitate to fill out the application. Student and family names are not shared and confidentiality is top priority. We certainly don’t want anyone to not attend Holy Name because they feel that they can’t afford it. We pray that the Holy Spirit will guide us as we disperse funds and God will provide.

Yesterday, our awesome Seminarian, William Heller, came for a visit. He read to some classes, played trivia and Family Feud with others, and even ate lunch with the Kindergarteners and played outside for recess with the students. William also participated in Mass with Father Marty and Deacon Bob. Please continue to pray for William as he continues his studies.

Last night the High School students enjoyed a beautiful awards ceremony! Many awards and scholarships were given out to very deserving students. We are so blessed to have such generous donors and benefactors that support our Holy Name Catholic School and our Holy Name High School – A Chesterton Academy. Thank you to Mrs. Viau and Mrs. Arts for all their hard work as they prepared a beautiful ceremony. Congratulations to all of the award and scholarship recipients!

Today we are celebrating our younger students at Kindergarten Graduation and next Tuesday we will celebrate our 8th Graders at Holy Name. Our Senior Graduation will be next Friday, May 29th, at St. Anne’s Church. Hopefully you will be able to join us for at least one of these celebrations. We are proud of all of our students and pray for their successful futures. Thank you to their teachers and parents who have helped lead and prepare them for a brighter future.

Have a great weekend and God bless,

Hello Crusader Family!

As Mrs. Brief said above, we held the high school awards ceremony last night. To say I’m proud of all of the high school students for their accomplishments this year is an understatement. Besides their academic achievements, they’ve all matured and grown so much as individuals. They amaze me every day with their kindness and their love for God. Scholarships were given out last night too. Over $34,000 in Holy Name designated scholarships were given out. Our supporters are so generous and care so much about the future of our students. We are so blessed!

Graduation is coming up next Friday, May 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s parish. It will be so hard for me to say goodbye to this amazing group of seniors. They’ve been so helpful and so supportive of me during my first year here and I’m going to miss them!

We’re on the home stretch, everyone! Summer is coming! As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions about our high school!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hello Crusader Families!

What a busy week it was at Holy Name Catholic School this week! We had two beautiful Spring Music concerts put on by our 1st-4th graders and our 5th-12th graders. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis did it again as the band and choir students were amazing! It’s so great to hear the growth from where they started in August to where they are now. Year one of “Bringing Back the Band” and our choral program was very successful. We’re blessed to have the Ellis’ as part of the Holy Name Family.

Our middle and high school track and field teams have been busy this season and have made wonderful progress. Many have made new personal best records and several have earned medals. Coach Luke, Coach Keith, and Mr. Derkos awarded many of the team members with medals during Convo the last couple of weeks. Congratulations to them all as they are wrapping up their season.

Thursday was a special day for our Seniors as many returned to Holy Name for a beautiful Mass led by Father Tim and Deacon Bob. Afterwards they all enjoyed some fun games and camaraderie in the gym and then ended with a special nacho lunch. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Thursday was the last day of school for our Holy Name High School students and we miss them already. Their Graduation Ceremony will be on Friday, May 29th at 6pm at St. Anne’s Church. You’re all welcome to come celebrate with us!

Have a great weekend and God bless,

Hello Crusader Family!

This seemed like the busiest week so far this year! It was the senior’s last week and we took some time to celebrate with them. On Tuesday, we had a cookout and some games in the afternoon and Wednesday, Mrs. Bink provided all of the fixings for a Pancake Art Breakfast! It’s safe to say that the seniors will be missed by all of us.

An email went home to all of the high school parents this week regarding next week’s High School Awards Night. This will take place on Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Parish in the hall. If you haven’t gotten the email please let me know. Remember to RSVP so that I can get a headcount.

The school year is winding down. Please remember that you can check your child’s academic progress in the FACTS Management system. I encourage you all to do this so that you can see if there are missing assignments or if you need to have a conversation with a teacher.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A Few “Brief” Notes from the Principal

Hello Crusader Families!

May is such a busy time of year with many exciting end-of-the-year events happening. Each day is passing by more quickly than the last and the final day of school will be here before we know it. I was able to visit many classrooms this week at the Grade School, and even though the end of the year is near, there is still a lot of learning happening in our classrooms. I am so impressed with the wonderful teachers that we have as well as the dedicated students we are blessed to have. I heard some beautiful prayers being recited in the 3rd grade, saw the 4th graders learning about the Beatitudes, watched as the 1st and 2nd graders engaged in SuperKids Reading lessons, smiled all the while the Kindergarteners learned about the Life Cycle of a Butterfly, and watched in awe as middle school students diagrammed sentences and learned about Jesus. Classical Education was on display at its finest this week!

In addition, this week was Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! We are so blessed to have such amazing and dedicated teachers and staff members at Holy Name Catholic School. While Mrs. Viau and I attempted to show our appreciation this week, we can never fully express how appreciative we are to our teachers and staff. They are such a fantastic and talented group of educators and we are beyond blessed to have a team of rock stars!

Next week is another busy one with Spring Choir and Band Concerts, Middle and High School Track meets (which both teams have been doing absolutely incredible!!), field trips, Senior Mass and Alumni Day, and the Seniors last day of school! Hopefully you’ll be able to join us in some of these exciting events as we come together to celebrate a wonderful school year.

Enjoy your weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all the Holy Name mothers. Mother Mary, please pray for all the mothers and Saint Thomas Aquinas, please pray for our teachers and staff.

God bless,

A “Viau” from the Headmaster

Hello Crusader Family!

We started our week with the Crusader Yard Cleanup! The entire school took part in cleaning up the yard of Mrs. St. Peter, who was the highest bidder for this cleanup at the Spring Fling. They all worked so hard and she was grateful for help. I’m so glad this tradition was started a few years ago.

On Tuesday night, our senior scholarship dinner was held. Each of the seven graduating seniors took time to get to know the benefactors that were in attendance and gave beautiful speeches about their time at Holy Name High School. To say I am proud of this class is an understatement. They spoke so eloquently about what it means to be a student at Holy Name High School and what they have learned, not only academically but also spiritually and emotionally. Each of them made a lasting impression on the benefactors and I heard over and over again about how much they enjoyed hearing from them. Scholarships will be awarded at our high school awards night on May 21.

One quick note–when I listed all of the things coming up this month in last week’s Brief Viau, I accidentally left off the very exciting Kindergarten Graduation! This will be held on Friday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

God Bless,

A Few “Brief” Notes from the Principal

Hello Crusader Families!

We’ve certainly had our fair share of April Showers, so let’s pray that we can enjoy some May Flowers! Regardless of the gloomy weather, we had a beautiful week at Holy Name. I was able to visit our Preschool and GSRP classrooms this week and what an amazing amount of fun and learning that is going on in those classrooms! If your child, or maybe even a friend or family member, has a child that will be 3-5 years old by September 1st, I encourage you, (and them!), to register for our Holy Name Preschool program or our GSRP program! Our Preschool is a tuition based, full day program for 3-5 year olds, and our Great Start Readiness Program, GSRP, is a free, half day program for 4 year olds. We do have an option for GSRP students to stay a full day for a small tuition fee. For more information or to schedule a tour, please contact Mrs. Brenda Adiska, our Preschool Director, at badiska@holynamecrusaders.com or the Holy Name office at office@holynamecrusaders.com or 906-786-7550.

Enrollment isn’t just open for Preschool, it’s open for all students PreK-12th Grade! Tuition Assistance is also available, so if you haven’t filled out the application yet, please do so as we will be meeting to go over Tuition Assistance soon for 26-27. You can register for enrollment and apply for Tuition Assistance by using this link: https://www.holynamecrusaders.com/admission/ If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact our office and we would be happy to help.

The end of the school day is a very busy and hectic time for everyone. However, we must keep the safety of our children at the forefront of everything we do. The parking lot can be a very dangerous place for children and adults. As a friendly reminder, we ask that you not park in the drop off/pick up pull through area. That area is designated for quick, yet safe, pick ups and drop offs. When vehicles park in this area, it makes it very difficult for students and adults to see around the vehicles, and it also congests the flow of traffic. It’s also very important that everyone abide by the one way entrance and exit drives to keep the flow of traffic smooth and safe. We ask for your patience and cooperation during this busy time for the safety of all our students.

Finally this week, I would like to let you all know that I have heard your concerns regarding the transition of 8th Grade Graduation next year. There have been some misunderstandings and miscommunications regarding the excitement and details of certain events, such as the excursion to Washington, D.C., Mass, and the awards ceremony. At this time, I do not yet have concrete clarification from those organizing the excursion. However, I want to assure you that your questions and concerns are a priority, and I will share more information as soon as it becomes available. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we all want what is best for Holy Name Catholic School.

God bless,

Hello Crusader Families!

What a beautiful week it has been! Thank you all so much for coming out to the Spring Fling, making donations and/or volunteering your time! It was a wonderful event and we were able to raise money for our school and our students. If you were at the Spring Fling, you saw the awesome debut of the video our Marketing Director, Vicki LaFave, put together featuring our Holy Name students and staff. If you missed it, it will be shared on social media and our website soon. It’s a beautiful demonstration of who we all came together to support as we continue our Mission to help our students live as children of God. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Jane Arts and Mr. Tony Derkos as they did an amazing job co-chairing our Spring Fling and another big thank you to Mrs. Vicki LaFave for putting together such a wonderful video.

As the weather is getting warmer, a reminder that boys’ and girls’ shorts, as well as girls’ skirts, must be no higher than 2″ above the knee. If a student is wearing shorts or a skirt that is too short, we will provide them with appropriate bottoms if we have their size in our uniform closet. If we don’t have their size, parents will be called to bring the students an appropriate pair of uniform bottoms. Students will need to sit in the office until the parent arrives so that they are not a distraction to others trying to learn. We understand that children grow fast and we have a collection of uniforms at both schools for parents and students to shop through. If you do not have anyone to pass a uniform down to, please consider paying it forward by donating uniforms that no longer fit to the school so that another family can take advantage of your kindness.

I pray you all have a blessed weekend.

God bless,

Hello Crusader Family!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t start out by saying what a great success the Spring Fling was this past Saturday! The prizes, raffle items, food and fellowship made for a great evening! This fundraiser is valuable in the day to day operations of our entire school and meeting our yearly financial needs. Thank you for your support.

This week, the 9th and 10th grade students took the PSAT and CLT exams. All standardized testing is done for this year for all of the high school grades. We’re all relieved about that!

Don’t forget about tonight’s Pasta Dinner. It will be held from 5:30-7:30 in the multipurpose room and this year’s Rome Pilgrims will be there to share about their trip. This is also a fundraiser for the next Rome Pilgrimage. I hope to see you all there.

Please continue to encourage your kids to keep up with their homework. The end is near, we know, but we need to stay on track. These kids are working so hard; let’s finish strong!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

God Bless,

Hello Crusader Families!

I hope you’re all enjoying this Easter Season. This week I handed out Perfect Attendance and Honor Roll awards during Convocation and it was such a blessing to see so many students receiving awards. Our students and teachers work so hard every quarter and it’s nice to be able to reward their achievements. There’s nothing better than seeing the smile of pride on their faces.

I have recently had some questions about the difference between our advisory council and a governing board. In Catholic schools, the difference between an advisory board and a governing board comes down to authority and responsibility. A governing board has legal and fiduciary responsibility for the school, making final decisions on finances, policies, and leadership while ensuring the school’s long-term stability and Catholic mission. An advisory board, by contrast, offers guidance and support, but does not have decision-making authority. In short, a governing board leads and decides, while an advisory board advises and supports.

We have a wonderful, supportive advisory council that meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the Conference Room at the Grade School at noon. These meetings are open to the public. By request, we are going to add a virtual option starting in May, however a request for a virtual link must be submitted in advance to the principal. A virtual link request will not be approved if it is requested less than 24 hours in advance of the meeting. Virtual links will be provided as an option to listen/view only. If a public comment would like to be made, it must be made in person and the topic of the comment needs to be provided to the principal and approved by the principal prior to the meeting. If you’re not able to attend the meeting in person or virtually, but would like to see the minutes, they are available in the Grade School office for you to view.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the Spring Fling tomorrow, Saturday, April 18th! Doors open at 4:30pm.

God bless,

Hello Crusader Families!

Happy Easter! Even though it was a short week, it was a very busy one as we are preparing for the Spring Fling which will be held next Saturday, April 18th! If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, you can do so by using this link: https://holynamespringfling.maxgiving.bid/tickets. We are still in need of volunteers, raffle items/baskets, and gift cards. If you would be willing to donate your time, you can sign up to volunteer using this link: https://www.holynamecrusaders.com/springfling/ or if you would like to donate an item, basket, or gift card, please drop it off in the office during school hours or contact Jane Arts at alumni@holynamecrusaders.com or 906-786-7550 x202 to arrange a pick up/drop off time that works for you.

It’s hard to believe that we started the final quarter of the 25-26 school year this week! Third quarter report cards were sent home this week. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly. If you haven’t enrolled your child for the 26-27 school year yet, you can do so by using this link: https://www.holynamecrusaders.com/admission/. This year has been such a blessing and I look forward to watching the students continue to grow.

Hello Crusader Family!

It was great to have all of the kids back at school on Tuesday! The juniors and seniors have been sharing their Rome Pilgrimage throughout the week. It sounds like a fantastic time was had by everyone. If you’d like to know more about their pilgrimage, mark your calendars for a fun filled evening coming up on Friday, April 24th from 5:30-7:30. We will be having a Pasta Dinner where the students will share their experiences with those in attendance.

We’ve now entered the 4th quarter of the school year. Boy, time sure has flown by! Planning ahead, I’d like to invite you all to join me in celebrating our Senior class of 2026 at their graduation ceremony. This year, it will be held on May 29th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Parish. In addition, Senior Parents, please mark your calendars for the Senior Awards Banquet to be held on May 21 at 6:00 p.m. in the hall at St. Anne’s parish. More information will be forthcoming.

Hello Crusader Families!

This week went by very quickly as everyone was excited to get back into school after all those blizzard/snow days. We were able to practice our Extreme Weather Drill (Tornado Drill) on Tuesday. The Middle School girls volleyball team recently wrapped up their season while Middle and High School Track is just getting underway. It was nice to see the halls and classrooms full and busy again. Next week they will be empty one more time as we have Spring Break March 30th-April 6th. School resumes on Tuesday, April 7th.

Even though it doesn’t feel like it, it’s officially Spring! Which means our Spring Fling is just around the corner on Saturday, April 18th. If you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, please use this link to order them now:

https://holynamespringfling.maxgiving.bid/tickets

We are also in need of gift cards, bottles of wine, and items for our raffles. Please feel free to drop off donations during our office hours or contact Jane Arts at 906-786-7550 x202 or alumni@holynamecrusaders.com to arrange a drop off or pick up time during Spring Break or after school hours. We appreciate your support and donations as we prepare for our biggest fundraiser of the year!

I pray that you all have a wonderful, safe, and relaxing Spring Break as well as a Blessed Easter!

God bless,

A “Viau” from the Headmaster

Hello Crusader Family!

Today is our LAST fish fry of the year! We’ve had such a great turnout each week and would love to finish strong. Please come and support this year’s freshmen and sophomores in raising money for their Rome Pilgrimage. Speaking of the Rome Pilgrimage, I hope you’ve been able to see the updates on our Holy Name Facebook page from our juniors and seniors that are on their trip. What an amazing experience they’ve had! They will be heading home today after a fantastic pilgrimage. Prayers for their safe trip home are much appreciated.

It’s hard to believe that after spring break we will be starting our final quarter of the year! I am confident that our students will work hard to finish the year strong but I know that we’re all a little ready for a break. I hope you all have a wonderful spring break and that you enjoy every minute of it!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

God Bless,
